Mundelein, IL.- Angélica Hernández, estudiante de último año de Mundelein High School y AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), ha sido galardonada y aceptó la Beca Presidencial en Northern Illinois University (NIU, por sus siglas en inglés). Es una beca completa y planea estudiar enfermería.
“Nuestra familia AVID está muy orgullosa de ella”, dijo la instructora de inglés y MHS AVID Kristen Behrens.
El Programa de Becarios Presidenciales de NIU reconoce a los estudiantes de secundaria sobresalientes por su arduo trabajo y logros académicos. La beca presidencial competitiva ofrece matrícula completa, tarifas, alojamiento y comida en el campus junto con un estipendio de libros por hasta cuatro años. Aproximadamente 10 estudiantes recibirán este premio cada año.
La universidad considera las siguientes categorías al evaluar a los candidatos: logro académico, participación comunitaria, cívica y co-curricular, y respuestas a cinco preguntas de ensayo personalizadas.
“Felicitaciones a Angélica, su familia y sus maestros de MHS por un trabajo bien hecho”, dijo el director de MHS Anthony Kroll. “Sé que escucharemos acerca de más cosas grandiosas que Angélica logrará en el futuro”.

Senior earns full ride scholarship to NIU
Mundelein High School senior and AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) student Angelica Hernandez, has been awarded and accepted the Presidential Scholarship at Northern Illinois University (NIU). It is a full ride scholarship and she plans to study nursing.
“Our AVID family is very proud of her,” said MHS AVID and English instructor Kristen Behrens.
The NIU Presidential Scholars Program recognizes outstanding high school students for their hard work and academic accomplishments. The competitive Presidential Scholarship provides full tuition, fees and on-campus room and board along with a book stipend for up to four years. Approximately 10 students will receive this award each year.
The university considers the following categories in evaluating candidates: academic achievement, community, civic and co-curricular involvement and responses to five personalized essay questions.
“Congratulations to Angelica, her family and her MHS teachers on a job well done,” said MHS Principal Anthony Kroll. “I know we’ll be hearing about more great things Angelica accomplishes in the future.”
