Mundelein, IL. – El estudiante de último año de Mundelein High School, Trey Baker, fue honrado recientemente por el ex presidente, Barrack Obama, por su trabajo voluntario en la escuela y la comunidad.
Baker ha sido miembro activo de la junta ejecutiva del Sindicato de Estudiantes Negros de MHS y organizador del movimiento Stronger Together, partidario de Black Lives Matter y voluntario en la distribución de alimentos a los residentes de Mundelein desde que comenzó la pandemia.
Recientemente, presidió una carrera de 5 km, Mundelein Race Against Gun Violence, que recaudó fondos y ayudó a crear conciencia y fondos para más de 50 organizaciones comunitarias que trabajan por un Chicago más pacífico donde todos puedan prosperar, libres del miedo a la violencia armada. El evento también fue respaldado por la organización My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) lanzada en 2014 por el ex presidente Barack Obama para abordar las persistentes brechas de oportunidades que enfrentan los hombres y mujeres jóvenes de color, y para garantizar que todos los jóvenes puedan alcanzar su máximo potencial.
“Me sorprendió hoy con un paquete enviado a mi casa desde las oficinas de la Fundación Obama en Washington DC”, dijo Baker.
Student receives praise from Obama
Mundelein High School senior, Trey Baker, was recently honored by former president, Barrack Obama, for his school and community volunteer work. Baker has been active as an executive board member of the MHS Black Student Union, and organizer for the Stronger Together movement, supporter of Black Lives Matter and a volunteer in distributing food to Mundelein residents since the pandemic began.
Recently he chaired a 5K race, Mundelein Race Against Gun Violence, which raised funds and helped raise awareness and funds for more than 50 community organizations working for a more peaceful Chicago where all can thrive, free from the fear of gun violence. The event was also backed by the My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) organization launched in 2014 by former president Barack Obama to address persistent opportunity gaps facing young men and women of color and to ensure all youth can reach their full potential.
“I was surprised today with a package sent to my house from the Obama Foundation offices in Washington D.C.,” Baker said.
