La biblioteca y el centro comunitario de Highwood abren sus puertas.

Highwood, IL – La Biblioteca y Centro Comunitario de Highwood (HLCC) está celebrando su reapertura con un evento lleno de diversión el sábado 9 de diciembre. La construcción de la renovación y ampliación de 4.3 millones de dólares de la galardonada biblioteca “Pequeña pero Poderosa” comenzó el 21 de noviembre de 2022. La biblioteca ha estado en construcción desde diciembre de 2022 para crear salas adicionales, actualizar la infraestructura y acercar las manos adelante, aprendizaje experiencial en el espacio recientemente renovado.
La directora ejecutiva Laura Ramírez comparte que: “Estamos absolutamente emocionados de reabrir al público y permitir que los miembros de la comunidad accedan a su nueva biblioteca y centro comunitario. Aunque hemos seguido sirviendo a la comunidad a través de la programación realizada en nuestros sitios asociados, nada se compara con poder recibir familias aquí en nuestro espacio recientemente renovado”.
Desde convertirse en un vehículo para la distribución de alimentos de organizaciones benéficas locales y un centro de vacunas durante una pandemia mundial hasta transformarse nuevamente tras el tiroteo de Highland Park el 4 de julio en un centro de clasificación que ofrece servicios de salud mental, el HLCC sirve como un recurso clave para la comunidad. Además de los servicios bibliotecarios tradicionales, la biblioteca ha ampliado sus programas de alfabetización para la primera infancia, jóvenes y adultos. El HLCC también ha ampliado sus iniciativas de equidad en salud para incluir asesoramiento, gestión de casos, capacitación y educación amplia.
Con los servicios ampliados y el uso creciente en los últimos años, se hizo necesaria la renovación del espacio. El edificio recientemente renovado crea áreas especiales para que los usuarios de todas las edades aprendan, crezcan, colaboren y se reúnan. La transformación de vanguardia incluye un laboratorio de computación, un atractivo departamento para niños con un escenario y una exhibición interactiva patrocinada por el Museo Infantil Kohl, un Maker Space basado en STE(A)M, espacios para reuniones colaborativas y un espacio especial sala de reuniones para eventos.
La Biblioteca y Centro Comunitario de Highwood se abrirá oficialmente al público el sábado 9 de diciembre de 2023, con un corte de cinta, oportunidades para que los niños creen regalos navideños y un evento de vacunación.

Library & Community Center to open doors
The Highwood Library & Community Center (HLCC) is celebrating its re-opening with a fun-filled event on Saturday, December 9th. Construction began on the $4.3 million-dollar renovation and expansion at the Award-winning “small but mighty” library on November 21, 2022. The library has been under construction since December 2022 to create additional rooms, update the infrastructure, and bring hands-on, experiential learning into the newly renovated space.
Executive Director Laura Ramirez shares: “We are absolutely thrilled to reopen to the public and allow community members to access their new library and community center. Although we have continued to serve the community through programming held at our partner sites, nothing compares to being able to host families here in our newly renovated space.”
From pivoting to being a vehicle for food distribution from local charities and a vaccine center during a worldwide pandemic to transforming again in the wake of the Highland Park Shooting on July 4th into a triage center offering mental health services, the HLCC serves as a key resource for the community. In addition to traditional library services, the library has expanded its early childhood, youth, and adult literacy programs. The HLCC has also expanded its health equity initiatives to include counseling, case management, coaching, and extensive education.
With expanded services and growing use over the last several years, space renovation became necessary. The newly renovated building creates special areas for patrons of all ages to learn, grow, collaborate, and come together. The state-of-the-art transformation includes a computer lab, an engaging children’s department with a stage and an interactive exhibit sponsored by the Kohl Children’s Museum, a STE(A)M-based Maker Space, collaborative meeting spaces, and a special events meeting room.
The Highwood Library & Community Center will officially open to the public on Saturday, December 9, 2023, with a ribbon cutting, opportunities for children to create holiday gifts, and a vaccination event.
