Join a choir, band or orchestra at church or in the community.

Waukegan, IL. – Last week I urged all our younger readers to sign up for their school choir, band or orchestra now! Every year that you can! Si se puede! It empowers you, profoundly relaxes you, grows your brain & ability to focus, and many, many more benefits. Making music is an important part of everyone’s education you’ll have for your whole life, and you’ll regret passing up the opportunity when you’re old like me!
But… Calling all grown-ups! Music-Making, Dancing, Art — they aren’t just for the kids! People of all ages and abilities need joy and benefit enormously from participation in music and other arts. Many times, it’s the mature adults and all ages with special challenges who seem to benefit the most, from my humble observations.
So, get off the couch everyone! Go to live events. Join a choir, band or orchestra at church or in the community. Dust off that instrument you used to play. If it’s been a long time, maybe treat yourself to a few lessons to knock the rust off your brain cells (you’ll probably enjoy it so much, you’ll continue the lessons – learning is so much more fun and efficient with a teacher!).
If you can’t find a group that’s exactly what you want – start your own. Doesn’t need to be really formal or professional to benefit your health – just get together with some family or friends and make music together on a regular basis. This is so good for you too – not just the kids.
