May 10 Mariachi Festival
Bravo Waukegan, a Lake Forest-based nonprofit organization supporting music education in Waukegan public schools (District 60), will sponsor Waukegan public schools’ annual Mariachi Festival. The free festival is open to the public and takes place May 10 at 6 p.m. at Waukegan High School, 2325 Brookside Ave., Trapp Auditorium.
The Mariachi Festival will feature performances from 150 students who participate in the after-school mariachi club programs. “Bravo is excited to sponsor this event,” said Karey Walker, executive director, Bravo Waukegan. “We have had the pleasure of working with District 60 to create five mariachi clubs. The groups provide culturally relevant music enrichment and give students the opportunity to build confidence and pride in their music and heritage. This festival is the culmination of these groups, as it enables students from all of the groups to come together and perform.”
