District 60 selected for 1 million grant

Waukegan, IL. – Waukegan Community Unit School District # 60 has been selected to receive funding under the Illinois State Board of Education’s (ISBE), 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21CCLC) grant program.
District 60 has been selected to receive two of organization’s 25 statewide awards, which will enhance after school programming at seven schools. As part of the grant, the District will receive more than $1 million in services each year for the next five years to provide the schools with out-of-school time cultural arts, academic, STEM, fitness, and other classes and activities.
Parents will also benefit as workshops and other services will be included that will support them in their role as at-home teachers and school and community leaders.
Schools selected for the grant include: Carman-Buckner Elementary School, Clearview Elementary School, Glenwood Elementary School, Whittier Elementary School, Benny Middle School, Jefferson Middle School and Waukegan High School.
These schools were chosen based on a need for additional supports to increase opportunities for students. The selected schools will begin seeing the implementation of programs in the fall. Parents at these sites will begin receiving additional information on these programs when implementation begins in the fall.
