How attending live music events improves your quality of life.

Waukegan, IL. – With the plethora of ways to listen to your favorite tunes available nowadays, listening to a live performance of music might not always be on your mind. But it should be. In fact, the experience and benefits that can come only from a live musical event can expand your mind, raise your mood, and bring you closer to those around you.
Whether you’re attending a rock concert, a jazz club performance, a folk music concert, or a classical recital, one of the most immediate and positive benefits of live music is the reduction of stress.
In our fast-paced world, sitting down (or standing up and dancing!) to live music performances is a perfect way to escape the stresses of life. Scientifically speaking, the experience of live music causes a marked reduction in the production of cortisol, commonly known as the stress hormone.
This reduction in stress is matched by increased production of dopamine, known as the “feel-good” hormone, which raises your mood not just during the concert experience but for many hours afterwards.
Amazingly, attending live music events has been found to produce an “analgesic” effect – meaning the reduction of cortisol and production of dopamine from live music will lower sensations of physical pain both during and after a concert experience.
Attending live music events also builds a communal feeling of togetherness, strengthening your relationships with your friends and family alongside you.
Whether you are attending an event with thousands of screaming fans or a small, intimate performance, the mutual excitement of concert-goers is contagious. Being around so many people with the same musical interest as you allows for great opportunities to make new friends, as well!
We at Family Piano Co believe in the benefits of getting off the couch and out into the wonderful world of local live-arts performances! In fact, we have our very own year-round concert series!
That’s right, nearly every weekend we host musical events in our Riverside Room, our very own dedicated music venue. Tickets are typically $10 to purchase online on our website familypiano.com, or $12 at the door.
Our musical acts include extremely high-quality up and coming local performers. The intimate atmosphere of our venue provides excellent chances to meet our wonderful performers and bring together local music lovers.
Attendees over 21 can even stop by at Greentown Tavern in our building and are able to bring purchased adult beverages down to the Riverside Room!
This Saturday evening Oct 19 we will have TWO acts: Liggitt & Sell who are fantastic guitarists with mostly original blues-folk material.
Upstairs for Artwauk, we’re proud to showcast The Jazzies, a local group of up-and-coming jazz musicians! Stop by Family Piano while you’re out “wauking” to hear some wonderful music and try out our large selection of pianos, guitars, and ukeleles. Pick up lesson info. Consider making some music yourself.
