Realizan protesta afuera de sus oficinas en Waukegan encabezada por Julie Contreras, pastora de United Giving Hope y otros líderes comunitarios.

Waukegan, IL. – Trabajadores en Lake County que afirman haber sido víctimas de un presunto fraude migratorio cometido por la organización House Worker Center, que dirige Gisela “Gigi” Medina en esta ciudad, presentaron denuncias ante el Departamento de Policía de Waukegan y la oficina del Fiscal del Estado.
Asimismo, el pasado viernes, se manifestaron frente a las oficinas ubicadas en el 128 N. Genesee Street en Waukegan, para manifestarse públicamente, exigir justicia y pedir que la organización House Worker Center rinda cuentas con todo el peso de la ley.
Por su parte, Giselda “Gigi” Medina, al ser cuestionada al respecto, dijo a Puro Futbol vía telefónica, que no hará declaraciones y que tomará tiempo para esperar a ver si procede o no la denuncia de 60 personas en contra de House Worker Center para poder dar a conocer un desplegado público.
Según las víctimas y los defensores de la comunidad, los afectados han presentado denuncias ante el Departamento de Policía de Waukegan y la Oficina del Fiscal General de Illinois, alegando que pagaron miles de dólares por asistencia relacionada con trámites migratorios y que se les prometieron servicios y representación legal que, según afirman, no recibieron como esperaban.
Las víctimas, señalan que fueron captadas a través de sus lugares de trabajo y de anuncios en redes sociales, los cuales generaron, según describen, una falsa sensación de seguridad respecto a los programas y servicios de inmigración.
“Los afectados se han unido para exigir la devolución de su dinero y solicitar que las autoridades competentes lleven a cabo una investigación exhaustiva sobre estas acusaciones”, dijo Julie Contreras, pastora de United Giving Hope en Waukegan.

Concejal Víctor Félix
Al respecto el concejal de la Ciudad de Waukegan, Víctor Félix, quien estuvo presente en la manifestación, declaró que: “Cualquier informe que indique que nuestra comunidad inmigrante o cualquier residente de Waukegan ha sido engañado o víctima de abusos resulta profundamente preocupante y justifica una investigación exhaustiva y completa. Todos los residentes merecen sentirse seguros y libres de abusos, independientemente de su estatus migratorio”.

Carmen Patlan directora del Center for Immigrant Progress (CIP, por sus siglas en inglés) dijo que: “Las familias inmigrantes acuden a organizaciones como la nuestra en algunos de los momentos más vulnerables de sus vidas.
Aprovecharse de esa confianza y de la incertidumbre para obtener beneficios económicos no solo es poco ético, sino que constituye una grave violación de la confianza depositada. En el CIP, seguiremos apoyando a nuestras familias, poniéndolas en contacto con recursos fiables y de confianza, y alzando la voz contra cualquiera que explote su vulnerabilidad”.
Julie Contreras agregó que: “House Worker Center llegó a nuestra comunidad como ladrones en la noche. Nuestras familias merecen protección, honestidad y dignidad, no explotación. Estaremos junto a las víctimas hasta que se haga justicia”.

Exigencias
Una investigación exhaustiva sobre las acusaciones. La devolución del dinero pagado por las personas que consideran haber sido defraudadas. Justicia, ya que House Worker Center se presentó indebidamente como una entidad cualificada para prestar servicios legales conforme a la legislación estadounidense. Protección para otros miembros de la comunidad que puedan ser vulnerables a esquemas similares.

House Worker Center accused of fraud
Workers in Lake County claiming to be victims of alleged immigration fraud committed by the House Worker Center, an organization in the city led by Gisela “Gigi” Medina, have filed complaints with the Waukegan Police Department and the State’s Attorney’s office.
Additionally, last Friday, they gathered outside the organization’s offices at 128 N. Genesee Street in Waukegan to protest publicly, demand justice, and call for the House Worker Center to be held accountable to the full extent of the law.
When asked about the matter, Giselda “Gigi” Medina told Puro Futbol by phone that she would not be making a statement; she said she would wait to see if the complaint filed by 60 people against the House Worker Center proceeds before releasing a public statement.
According to the victims and community advocates, those affected have filed complaints with the Waukegan Police Department and the Illinois Attorney General’s Office, alleging they paid thousands of dollars for assistance with immigration procedures and were promised services and legal representation that they claim they did not receive as expected.
The victims state that they were recruited through their workplaces and via social media advertisements, which, they describe, created a false sense of security regarding the immigration programs and services offered.
“Those affected have united to demand the return of their money and to call on the competent authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into these allegations,” said Julie Contreras, pastor of United Giving Hope in Waukegan.

Councilman Víctor Félix
Regarding the situation, Waukegan City Councilman Víctor Félix, who attended the protest, stated: “Any report indicating that our immigrant community or any Waukegan resident has been deceived or subjected to abuse is deeply concerning and warrants a thorough and complete investigation. All residents deserve to feel safe and free from abuse, regardless of their immigration status.”

Taking advantage of that trust and uncertainty for financial gain is not only unethical but constitutes a serious breach of the trust placed in them. At CIP, we will continue to support our families by connecting them with reliable, trustworthy resources and by speaking out against anyone who exploits their vulnerability.”
Julie Contreras added: “The House Worker Center came into our community like thieves in the night. Our families deserve protection, honesty, and dignity, not exploitation. We will stand with the victims until justice is served.”

Demands
A thorough investigation into the allegations. Reimbursement of money paid by individuals who believe they were defrauded. Justice, given that the House Worker Center improperly presented itself as an entity qualified to provide legal services under U.S. law. Protection for other community members who may be vulnerable to similar schemes.
