Agentes investigan, identifican y arrestan a un hombre que intentó solicitar un acto sexual a una menor.

Mundelein, IL. – Agentes de la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado de Lake arrestaron a un hombre de esta ciudad después de que este intentara solicitar a una menor que participara en un acto sexual.
El 24 de abril de 2026, aproximadamente a las 3:00 p.m., agentes de la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado de Lake respondieron a la cuadra 26300 de North Diamond Lake Road, en Mundelein, tras recibir un informe sobre una persona que le pidió a una niña de 14 años que participara en un acto sexual.
Los agentes del sheriff llegaron al lugar y hablaron con la víctima, quien relató que se encontraba de pie cerca de su casa cuando una camioneta tipo pickup, conducida por un hombre de unos 40 años, se detuvo cerca de ella. El hombre le preguntó si tenía 13 o 14 años y luego le pidió que lo ayudara con algo. Acto seguido, el hombre le solicitó a la niña que realizara un acto sexual con él. La niña se alejó de inmediato, regresó a su casa y contó a sus padres lo sucedido. Sus padres llamaron entonces a la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado de Lake.
Los agentes del sheriff hablaron con la víctima y con varios vecinos. Uno de los vecinos les mostró imágenes de video captadas por el timbre de su puerta en la zona, y los agentes observaron una camioneta que coincidía con la descripción del vehículo involucrado en el incidente. Uno de los vecinos comentó a los agentes que creía haber visto ese mismo vehículo en Shady Lane, en Mundelein. Los agentes se dirigieron de inmediato a esa zona y localizaron el vehículo estacionado frente a una vivienda en la cuadra 300 de Shady Lane.
Una investigación posterior realizada por los agentes del sheriff reveló que la persona que conducía el vehículo en el momento del incidente era Homero Sotero-Ocampo, de 41 años, quien residía en la cuadra 300 de Shady Lane. Los agentes llevaron a cabo un procedimiento de identificación visual en el lugar (show-up), y la víctima identificó positivamente a Sotero-Ocampo como la persona que le había solicitado participar en un acto sexual.
Sotero-Ocampo fue arrestado, trasladado a la División de Investigaciones Criminales de la Oficina del Sheriff y entrevistado por el equipo de Crímenes contra Menores de dicha oficina. Tras la entrevista, la Oficina del Fiscal del Estado del Condado de Lake aprobó el cargo de Solicitación Indecente de un Menor (delito grave de Clase 3).
Sotero-Ocampo permanece detenido en la Cárcel del Condado de Lake a la espera de una audiencia judicial inicial que tendrá lugar esta mañana. La Oficina del Fiscal del Estado del Condado de Lake tiene la intención de presentar una solicitud para mantener a Sotero-Ocampo bajo custodia mientras aguarda el juicio.

Man Attempted to Solicit Sex Act from Child
Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a Mundelein man after he attempted to solicit a child to engage in a sexual act.
On April 24, 2026, at approximately 3:00 p.m. Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 26300 block of North Diamond Lake Road, unincorporated Mundelein, for a report of a person who asked a 14-year-old girl to engage in a sexual act.
Sheriff’s deputies arrived and spoke to the victim, who said she was standing near her home, when a pickup truck, driven by a man in his 40’s stopped near her. The man asked her if she was 13 or 14 years old and then asked her to help him with something. The man then requested the girl engage in a sexual act with him. The girl immediately walked away, went home, and told her parents what occurred. Her parents then called the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s deputies spoke to the victim and several neighbors. One of the neighbors showed them video doorbell footage of the area, and sheriff’s deputies saw a pickup truck that matched the description of the offending vehicle. One of the neighbors told sheriff’s deputies they may have seen the same vehicle on Shady Lane in Mundelein. Sheriff’s deputies immediately went to that area and located the vehicle parked in front of a home in the 300 block of Shady Lane.
Further investigation by sheriff’s deputies revealed the person driving the vehicle when the incident occurred was Homero Sotero-Ocampo, 41, who lived in the 300 block of Shady Lane. Sheriff’s deputies conducted a “show up” and the victim positively identified Sotero-Ocampo as the person who asked her to engage in a sexual act.
Sotero-Ocampo was arrested and transported to the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division and interviewed by the Sheriff’s Crimes Against Children team. Following the interview, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved the charge of Indecent Solicitation of a Minor (Class 3 Felony).
Sotero-Ocampo remains held in the Lake County Jail pending an initial court hearing this morning. The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office intends to file a petition to detain Sotero-Ocampo in custody while awaiting trial.
