3 District 60 Math Teachers Win State Awards

Were recently honored by the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

Waukegan, IL.- Three Waukegan Public Schools teachers were recently honored by the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM) for their outstanding work as math educators.
Waukegan teachers had the remarkable distinction of winning the teacher of the year awards in the elementary, middle school and secondary level. Overall, WPS60 teachers won three of the ICTM’s eight annual awards.
“It is truly encouraging that educators around the state are recognizing the achievement gains and contributions made by Waukegan Public Schools, all its educators, and especially its students,” said Mr. Matt Foster, the District’s K-8 Math Coordinator. “We are fast becoming a district that others look to for positive change.”

Ms. Melissa Wise
Was announced as the Excellence in Elementary Mathematics Teaching Award winner. Ms. Wise works as a second grade teacher at Greenwood, where she has taught since 2009. She joined District 60 in August 1999.
