Veggies, important for kid’s good health
By Robin O’Connor

Lake County, IL. – Vegetables! These items are often not our children’s favorite choice, but eating fruits and veggies are important for good health.
My grandmother and mother often used tricks to make these items more appealing. There were always slices of apples or oranges for us to nibble on, as well as cut-up celery and carrots. Simple fact — something cut up in slices or chunks tends to be eaten over eating whole items. Cutting those items up lengthwise just seems to attract the hungry. Add peanut butter and raisins on celery sticks to make a snack called “ants on a log” and you have a healthy fun choice!
And yes…sometimes you can add caramel topping as a dip for a Halloween special treat.
Another healthy tip is to add frozen veggies or fruit to your grocery list. They’re less expensive than fresh items, plus they’re much healthier than canned items. You don’t have to change quickly — just take small steps.
